The SEED Initiative directly supports innovative, emerging, and locally-driven developing country entrepreneurial partnerships for sustainable development which are selected through a global competition. Its broader aim is to build capacity, and to inspire and promote new approaches to strengthen livelihoods; tackle poverty and marginalisation; and manage and conserve natural resources and ecosystems.   SEED was founded by IUCN, UNEP and UNDP to contribute towards the goals in the UN's Millennium Declaration and the commitments made at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002.
